An aerial photo of Danville, NY, taken in September of 2006. It appeared that the center of town was at the crossroads, and that a cemetery is in the small woods between the cross- roads and the barn to the lower left.

There are a number of small lakes surrounding the old settlement, and each one has cottages, a campground and a boat launch. It is a busy place in the summer, but likely it would still be a tough place to make a living scratching shallow dirt on the top of a hill!

The reason for the stone wall is that there were so many rocks in the fields.
The reason for the trees is that after clearing all those stones, there were still too many stones in the fields.

This looked like a pear tree growing next to the footing of a building that stood just north- east of the crossroad.

The cemetary. I saw only a few Danns among the stones in November of 2006; among them was Wellington and Isaac.

Nearby at the south end of Oquaga lake stands two vintage resort buildings. This was the largest and seemed to have dozens of rooms.
I was intrigued with the idea of a weekend "back in time".
